Family business and our values
Fundamental to our approach is the fact that we are a 23 generation family business
with responsible stewardship at our heart. Our values reflect our family business
ethos: In all our business dealings everyone should be open, honest and supportive.
We think long term and we should ensure that we always aim to do a professional
and quality job. In our work we should show mutual respect and listen to other's
views.
Crafting the Estate culture
We need to effect a more radical transformation than before. We have over 700
years of history and have shown a remarkable ability to adapt and influence
successful outcomes. Today we face a world moving at a much faster pace;
"attention" is probably the world's scarcest asset and the next generation hold
many of the answers to the challenges we face. We need to craft a culture which
fits this new model. One which respects and values the past yet embraces the future
and all that brings with it.
Although a land and property business, with a wide range of assets, our 2021
Strategy will be delivered by people. Our ability to have a major impact on the lives
of many people should not be underestimated. A new building in the landscape
may be around for generations, a woodland for around 70 years and a field of
wheat for a season. These are the impacts people see. We also have the potential
to impact things not many people can see. Soil, air and water quality, rare flora
and fauna, plant disease and invasive species. We also can impact lives and
livelihoods in how we operate our residential and commercial property portfolios.
How we invest, how we manage and engage can determine our legacy as much
as what we physically deliver.
