Business expansion sees Devon based SJB Foods take on larger premises

SJB Foods are distributors of high quality cooked meats, cheese and sandwich fillings to over 450 companies across Devon and Somerset. The firm, which runs a fleet of four refrigerated vans and employs eight members of staff, was established in 1993 by the Stephen Berisford who chose Colaton Raleigh as a base due to its prime location and premises suitable for food preparation.

Owned by Clinton Devon Estates, The Old Sawmills is an industrial estate on the edge of Colaton Raleigh in East Devon, only 11 miles from Exeter and the M5.

Managing Director Stephen Berisford said: “We needed a larger unit as we had exceeded our space but we wanted to stay on the Old Sawmills industrial estate. Fortunately, Clinton Devon Estates were able to accommodate us.

“The location of The Old Sawmills is ideal, it’s one of the reasons we initially chose to start the company here. We supply to over 450 companies within a 50-mile radius, having great transport links and being so close to Exeter is a real must for our company.”

“Clinton Devon Estates have been our landlords for nearly 25 years. In all of those years they’ve remained extremely accommodating and professional. We haven’t looked back!

“Our move has been so much easier because we’ve only had to relocate to the opposite unit – which we have upgraded and now provides us with everything we need to continue delivering an excellent service to our current customers and hopefully, to new ones too.”

Adrian Pitts, Estate Surveyor at Clinton Devon Estates who facilitated SJB’s move into their new and upgraded premises said: “We’ve watched SJB Foods grow right from the beginning and we’re really pleased that we’re able to support the next stage of their business growth in a new distribution unit at The Old Sawmills industrial estate.”

SJB Foods have moved to a unit that is four times bigger than their previous premises. It has been fitted with freezers and refrigerated storage plus factory facilities for slicing cooked meats and grating all types of cheese.

There is one remaining 4,200 square foot unit available to let at The Old Sawmills industrial estate. For more information, contact Malcom Williams at Harrison-Lavers & Potbury’s on 01395 516633 or visit
