Timber Production
Estate woodlands currently produce circa 10,000m³ of FSC certified timber per year, largely from selective thinning operations. Conifers account for most of the harvested volume with Douglas fir, spruce and larch the major species. Produce is sold to manufacturers, sawmills and wood processing industries in the local, regional and national markets.
Softwood specifications include:
- Fuelwood
- Chipwood
- Rustic poles
- Fencing stakes and posts
- Fencing bars
- Short and long length sawlogs
- Bespoke poles for timber buildings
- Large open grown Christmas trees
Hardwood specifications include:
- Fuelwood
- Ash poles for furniture manufacture
- Hardwood timber, principally oak, of fencing, beam and planking grade.
